Neck Pain & Headaches Can Affect Every Part of Your Day

Whether your symptoms started suddenly or have gradually developed over time, identifying the underlying cause is the first step toward lasting relief.

Neck pain and headaches are among the most common reasons adults seek chiropractic care. Whether caused by poor posture, long hours at a computer, repetitive movements, sports injuries, auto accidents, or simply years of everyday wear and tear, these conditions can make work, sleep, exercise, and daily activities difficult.

Many people assume the problem is only in their neck, but discomfort is often influenced by the upper back, shoulders, ribs, jaw, surrounding muscles, and the way the body moves as a whole. That's why simply treating the painful area isn't always enough.

Common symptoms we evaluate include:

  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Muscle tightness and spasms
  • Tension headaches
  • Cervicogenic headaches (headaches originating from the neck)
  • Pain at the base of the skull
  • Difficulty turning your head
  • Pain between the shoulder blades
  • Pain radiating into the shoulder or arm
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Poor posture or "tech neck"
  • Pain following an auto accident or sports injury

Whether your symptoms began yesterday or have been present for years, our goal is to identify the underlying factors contributing to your pain and create a treatment plan that helps you move better—not just feel better.

Looking Beyond the Symptoms

Pain is often the result of several contributing factors—not just one injured muscle or joint.

At City Point Chiropractic, we believe successful treatment begins with understanding why your pain developed.

Your evaluation starts with a detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, daily activities, occupation, hobbies, previous injuries, and personal goals. We then perform a comprehensive examination to evaluate how your neck, upper back, shoulders, and surrounding tissues work together.

Depending on your condition, we may evaluate:

  • Posture
  • Spinal mobility
  • Joint motion
  • Muscle tension
  • Shoulder function
  • Upper back and rib mobility
  • Functional movement patterns
  • Neurological findings when appropriate

Many headaches don't actually begin in the head. Tight muscles, restricted joints, poor posture, and irritation within the neck can all contribute to headache symptoms. Rather than focusing only on where you feel pain, we evaluate how your entire musculoskeletal system may be contributing to your symptoms.

Our goal is to identify movement restrictions, muscular imbalances, and compensation patterns so we can address the source of your discomfort and help reduce the likelihood of future flare-ups.

Our Assessment & Treatment Approach

Every treatment plan is personalized based on your examination findings, lifestyle, goals, and response to care.

No two patients experience neck pain the same way. That's why every treatment plan is individualized to address your specific condition and help you return to the activities you enjoy.

Depending on your examination findings, treatment may include:

Chiropractic Adjustments

Specific chiropractic adjustments help restore healthy joint motion throughout the cervical spine, thoracic spine, ribs, and surrounding joints while improving mobility and reducing mechanical stress.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Muscles and connective tissues often become tight and protective following injury or repetitive strain. Soft tissue techniques help improve mobility, decrease muscle tension, and restore more normal movement.

Dry Needling

When appropriate, dry needling may be used to reduce muscular trigger points, improve tissue mobility, and decrease pain associated with muscle dysfunction. It can be especially beneficial for tension within the upper trapezius, levator scapulae, suboccipital muscles, sternocleidomastoid (SCM), and other muscles commonly associated with neck pain and headaches.

Movement-Based Rehabilitation

Pain often improves faster—and stays away longer—when movement improves. We prescribe individualized rehabilitation exercises designed to restore strength, posture, mobility, stability, and coordination while helping reduce the risk of future injury.

Patient Education

Recovery doesn't stop when you leave the office. We provide practical guidance on posture, workstation ergonomics, sleeping positions, lifting mechanics, and home exercises so you can continue making progress between visits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear from patients experiencing neck pain and headaches.

Can chiropractic care help headaches?

Many headaches are influenced by tension and dysfunction within the neck, upper back, jaw, and surrounding muscles. Following a thorough evaluation, we'll determine whether your headaches appear to be related to the musculoskeletal system and discuss whether chiropractic care may be an appropriate part of your treatment plan.

Do I have to have my neck "cracked" or adjusted?

No. Every treatment plan is individualized, and we always discuss your preferences before beginning care. While many patients choose traditional chiropractic adjustments, there are several other effective treatment options available.

Depending on your condition and comfort level, treatment may include Activator® Methods, drop-table techniques, soft tissue therapy, dry needling, rehabilitation exercises, or other conservative treatments. In some cases, we may even postpone or avoid neck adjustments altogether while focusing on these other therapies first.

Our goal is to provide the treatment that's right for you. We'll explain your options, answer your questions, and work together to develop a treatment plan that fits your comfort level and clinical needs.

Will I need X-rays?

Not everyone requires imaging. If X-rays or other diagnostic imaging are clinically indicated based on your history or examination findings, we'll discuss our recommendations and help determine the most appropriate next step.

How many visits will I need?

Every patient is different. The number of visits depends on the nature of your condition, how long you've had symptoms, your goals, and how your body responds to treatment. After your examination, we'll review our findings, discuss your treatment options, and develop a personalized plan designed around your individual needs.
